La Calavera, from classic to smashing it with experimental

If we could only choose one single word to define and differentiate La Calavera from the rest of the craft breweries on the national scene, it would undoubtedly be "experimental."

Their history, their journey, and their brewing adventures, however, began with classic-style beers until they were able to find their place, their style, and their personality.

Mikel Mendizabal and Marc Baulida are two friends with a common hobby: brewing beer. Little did they imagine that this passion would flourish into their profession. That is how La Calavera was born around 2011 in a farmhouse in the Ripollès region, gradually establishing itself within the peninsular craft scene.

Although in their early days they produced Ale-fermented beers with a very classic cut and character, it didn't take them long to delve into the experimental world and the world of Barrel Aged beers, the specialization in beers aged in all types of barrels, marking a turning point in their professional trajectory.

This vision, which goes beyond the traditional concept of beer, has helped them produce a product of very high quality and complexity that contributes to shaping new flavors, nuances, characters, aromas, and textures in the beers they brew. Added to the professionalization of their know-how, machinery, technique, new biochemical processes, etc., this has given them the possibility to access international markets that greatly enjoy this experimental character that defines them so well, for example, the United States market or the Chinese market.

Their philosophy is distinguished by the singular, unique, and unrepeatable; that is why they take care of every detail of production and advocate for quality over quantity. They take all the time necessary to create the ideal and perfect conditions for the product to develop in the best way, and, evidently, they always use raw materials of excellent quality.

The result is just that: a renowned brand and beers that are special and with which to surprise even the most demanding drinkers.
