After World War II, in Belgium and Germany, these beers were on the verge of disappearing, as brewing them was illegal because the use of wheat was solely concentrated on making bread. Likewise, it wasn't until 1960 that traditional wheat beers re-emerged in Europe, specifically in the town of Hoegaarden in Belgium, where Pierre Cellis, son of the local baker and a beer lover, resumed producing the classic Wit/Blanche.
These beers are typically light and pale in color <>ranging between yellow and orange, are cloudy, and generate a large head of foam that differentiates them from other beers. In both cases, these beers are usually brewed with 50% wheat in the malt. Furthermore, their low alcohol content and flavor are usually relatively mild, making them perfect for warmer times of the year.
