Westmalle

Westmalle is a true trapense beer made within the walls of the historic Westmalle Abbey in Belgium. Founded in 1794 and officially recognized as a trappense abbey in 1836, it began its brewery legacy with the need of monks to brew their own drink in an environment where it was not possible to grow grapes for wine. Since then, this brewery has kept the trappense tradition alive, producing beers recognized worldwide for their quality and authenticity.

Westmalle brewery was a pioneer in launching the Westmalle Tripel in 1934, the first golden strong pale ale to use this iconic term “tripel”, marking a before and after in brewery history. In addition, its Westmalle Dubbel, with roots dating back to the mid-19th century, is considered a classic reference to this style. Over the years, the factory has evolved incorporating modern production techniques without losing the traditional essence supervised by monks.

Today, Westmalle produces four trapping beers under strict controls of the International Trappist Association, which ensures that each lot meets the criteria of authenticity and quality. With a production that combines the ancestral monastic knowledge and the work of brewers experts, a true symbol of the Belgian brewery heritage and a jewel for those who seek to enjoy beers with history and character.
