It all began in 1871, when Jan-Léonard Moortgat founded a small brewery farm in Puurs, Belgium. There, among trials, yeasts and dreams, was born more than a beer: Duvel, a legend, was born. Albert’s son, after an odyssey in Scotland, brought the perfect yeast strain that still gives life to this iconic Belgian Strong Ale.
At the end of World War I, during a tasting among friends, a shoemaker exclaimed: “This is a demon!” (“Duvel” in flamenco). Thus, the name was sealed forever. Powerful, golden, complex, with impeccable foam and that citrus spot that falls in love—Duvel is not a beer, it is an experience.
Its tulip cup, designed to free its aromas and maintain its carbonate, raised the brewing ritual to another level. And since then, Duvel has grown, conquered palates and reached more than 60 countries, staying faithful to its original recipe.
Duvel is a living story, it's fire, precision, heritage and bottled audacity, a beer that's not eaten... is revered.
