What is IPA Day?
To answer this question, we must first ask ourselves another: What is an IPA?
IPA is a craft beer style known in the artisan world for its bitterness. To begin, we must go back to the origin of IPA beer, which, in case you didn't know, stands for India Pale Ale. Its origin stems from British colonial voyages during the 18th century. The English transported their Ale (beer) from the United Kingdom to India, but the beer often arrived in poor condition due to the long journey, extreme temperature changes, and the constant motion of the ship. Someone had the idea to add more hops to the beer for their antioxidant and preservative properties, as well as a higher alcohol content, giving rise to the famous IPA style, to which new variations have been added, such as Belgian IPA, Red IPA, New England IPA, Micro IPA, American IPA, Double IPA, Triple IPA… An endless number of variations for lovers of this style.
IPA Day was born in the 21st century, specifically in 2011, when two Americans, Ashley Routson and Ryan Ross, decided to honor the IPA with a specific day: the first Thursday of August. Later, in 2013, internet portals echoed the celebration, and it began to become famous in the craft beer world. IPA Day commemorates an international movement to unite the sentiment of craft beer lovers and enthusiasts.
