German Beers

The beer culture in Europe is undoubtedly linked to Germany, considering that the oldest active brewery in the world is located in Bavaria. Furthermore, we also owe the Bavarian state the promulgation of the Beer Purity Law, Reinheitsgebot in German, a law created by William IV of Bavaria. It remained in force for hundreds of years, and today, although repealed, many German manufacturers continue to produce their products traditionally, following this law. Despite the fact that the fame of German beers is centered in Bavaria and in Hallertau, the world's largest hop-producing region, Germany has brewing tradition and culture throughout its geography, with its own styles such as Kolsch from Cologne or Berliner Weisse.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that in Munich, with over six million visitors, the most important beer event in the world, Oktoberfest, is celebrated between late September and early October. Its first edition was held on October 17, 1810, to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.
