Technical Data Sheet
Description
Hanssens Oude Kriek is a traditional Belgian lambic that combines one-, two-, and three-year-old lambics aged in oak barrels, with the addition of 70 kg of black Belgian Schaarbeekse cherries per 600 L foeder. After bottling and extended cellar storage, secondary fermentation develops a complex, vibrant, and balanced beer where acidity, fruit, and wood are masterfully intertwined. Its profile evolves over time, showing layers of flavor and aroma that only an authentic kriek can offer.
Characteristics:
Style: Oude Kriek
Alcohol Content: 6% ABV
Serving Temperature: 8 – 12 °C
Color (EBC): Deep red with medium-retention pink foam
Bitterness (IBU): Very low (<10 IBU)
Character, Flavor, Aromas:
The aroma unfolds complex nuances of ripe cherries, oak wood, damp earth, and soft vanilla. On the palate, the fresh acidity of the cherry predominates, combined with deep fruity notes that slowly evolve as the beer matures in the bottle. The finish is long, dry, fruity, and with a persistent sensation of freshness and a lactic-earthy character that distinguishes quality kriek.
Food Pairing:
Ideal for pairing with red fruit or dark chocolate desserts, cherry tarts, cheesecakes with red fruit coulis, or panna cotta. It also pairs very well with creamy goat cheeses, foie gras, and light Asian cuisine dishes with acidic or sweet notes, where the beer's acidity and fruity profile balance the richness of the dish and cleanse the palate.
If you are looking for an authentic, complex, and characterful cherry lambic, Hanssens Oude Kriek is a must-have. Add it to your cart and enjoy a Belgian kriek that evolves with every sip.
