Autumn beers
Compartir
Autumn began a little over a month ago, and although the high temperatures are not letting us enjoy it, we want to look ahead to this change in weather and embrace the autumn spirit in the way we do best: through beer.
That is why we are bringing you a selection of beers to enjoy during the season ahead.
In general terms, according to the BJCP (Beer Judge Certification Program), autumn beers evoke the autumn harvest season through their body, aroma, and flavor; therefore, these beers may include seasonal products and spices.
Classic beers
We want to start this guide with a light beer style, the Festbier, which is, nothing more and nothing less, the modern German beer served at the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich and other "wiesn," which is the name given to these beer festivals. It is a German lager, smooth, with an aroma and flavor rich in toasted notes and subtle sweetness that make it perfect for this transitional weather. Enjoy one of the legendary Oktoberfest festbiers from the Hofbräuhaus brewery, one of the famous Munich institutions whose origins date back to 1589.
With a bit more body, and more complex aromas and flavors, there is the Belgian Dubbel. It is a beer with toasted touches that can give it a mild chocolate or caramel flavor, which may include light floral or even spicy notes (though the latter at a very, very moderate level).
The Rauchbier, a German beer whose character comes from the beechwood smoking applied to the malt, provides a unique and very autumnal touch, provided they are well-balanced. They are very similar to Smoked beers, whose aroma is imparted by the use of malts smoked over different woods.
With a toasted character and moderate bitterness, the English Porter. It has a subtle bread, biscuit, and toasted malt flavor that slightly reminds us of chocolate, caramel, toffee, or nuts, depending on the version we choose. Here is another Porter-style beer.
Seasonal beers
Finally, we want to talk about a couple of seasonal beers, made with products and spices related to autumn.
The Montseny Castanya beer is a chestnut ale; it has a smoky, toasted malt aroma, which, added to the nuance of the chestnut, makes it very appropriate for these months.
The Pumpkin Ale is a sweet beer with a complex flavor that can be reminiscent of famous carrot cake, thanks to the use of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, or vanilla. It is perfect for this time of year.

At Beer Republic, you can find a wide variety of the beers mentioned in this post. Enjoy them!
