Pale Lager

Helles Lager is the broadest designation encompassing all pale, bottom-fermented beers inspired by the Bavarian tradition of Munich. It includes both the classic Münchner Helles and its modern reinterpretations crafted by craft breweries around the world. What unites them is a clean, malty, balanced, and highly sessionable profile, without aromatic excesses but with an elegance provided only by well-executed lager processes.

In the glass, it shows a clear, very luminous golden yellow color, with a creamy, persistent white head. On the nose, soft notes of bread, sweet cereal, light honey, and a very discreet herbal or floral background appear. The lager yeast does not provide fruity esters, leaving all expressiveness to the malt and a subtle touch of hops. On the palate, it has a medium-low body, with a pleasant malty sweetness, lively but not aggressive carbonation, low bitterness (15-25 IBU), and a dry, very clean finish. The alcohol content is between 4.5% and 5.5%.

It is brewed with German Pilsner malts or equivalents, European noble hops in discreet amounts, and a lager yeast with prolonged cold maturation. Patience is key: the long lagering (several weeks) is what gives it the polished and clean character that defines the style.

It is an extraordinarily versatile beer at the table: it pairs with practically everything, from appetizers to international cuisine, fish, chicken, salads, pizzas, or mild cheeses. It is served between 6 °C and 9 °C in a pint glass or Bavarian krug. The ideal choice when you want an easy, elegant, and very well-made beer without great flourishes.
