IPL

The IPL (India Pale Lager) is a modern hybrid style that applies the intense hopping techniques of IPAs but with lager fermentation and cold maturation. The result is a beer that combines the best of both worlds: the crispness, dry body, and elegance of a lager with the aromatic explosion and bitterness of an IPA. It is a relatively recent style that has gained significant ground among American and European craft breweries.

In the glass, it displays a light to deep golden color, with a creamy white head and excellent clarity. On the nose, American or modern hops dominate: citrus, tropical fruit, pine, resin, and herbal nuances, though with a character somewhat cleaner and more defined than in an ale IPA, thanks to the lager fermentation which does not contribute fruit esters. On the palate, it has a medium body, minimal malty sweetness, a present and elegant bitterness (40-60 IBU), lively carbonation, and a very dry, clean finish. The alcohol content ranges between 5% and 7%.

It is brewed with pilsner or light pale malts as a base, a small proportion of soft malts to provide body, a significant dose of American or modern hops during the boil and dry hopping, and lager yeast with adequate cold maturation to maintain cleanliness without muting the hop aroma.

It is a very versatile beer that pairs well with Asian cuisine, sushi, fish, chicken, elaborate salads, spicy food, or aged cheeses. Serve between 5 °C and 8 °C in a tulip or pint glass. An ideal choice if you love hops but are looking for something cleaner and less heavy than a traditional IPA.
