Belgian Blonde

The Belgian Blonde is one of the most accessible styles in the rich Belgian brewing tradition. It was born as a response from Belgian breweries to the Pilsners that dominated the European market, but with an unmistakable twist: the use of highly expressive Belgian yeasts that provide fruity esters and spicy notes that no pale lager can offer.

In the glass, it displays a clean and luminous golden color, with a creamy white head that has good retention. On the nose, it combines fruity aromas of pear, apple, and banana with subtle notes of pepper, clove, honey, and a malty background of biscuit and cereal. The presence of hops is discreet, leaving all the prominence to the yeast and malt. On the palate, it has a medium body, mild sweetness, high carbonation that lightens the mouthfeel, moderate bitterness (15-30 IBU), and a dry, elegant finish. The alcohol content ranges between 6% and 7.5%, higher than its light character suggests.

It is brewed with Pilsner malts, a small proportion of caramel malt, candy sugar to lighten the body, noble European hops, and Belgian yeasts that provide all the aromatic complexity.

It is a very gastronomic beer that pairs with poultry, pork, seafood, sushi, mild cheeses, or elaborate salads. It is served between 6 °C and 9 °C in a chalice or tulip glass to concentrate the aromas. A perfect option to discover Belgium if you come from the world of lagers or want an elegant and easy-drinking beer, but with more layers than it seems.
