These two independent beer styles are part of the Ale type beers, and regarding their origins, Porter comes from England.
It is believed that the name comes from the beer drunk by dockworkers, known as 'Porters', who needed to drink high-calorie beers to help them with such heavy work. As for its production, two different types of beer were mixed, one made in the city where the water quality was doubtful, and another beer made in agricultural areas where the water quality was better. In terms of characteristics, since they were not 100% malted, they were dark in color but light-bodied.
From the evolution of Porter, Stout was born, with 100% malted, heavily roasted grain, and a full, intense body, standing out for its black color with dense foam, with predominant notes of bitter coffee and chocolate.
To differentiate them, we highlight that Porter beer is usually lighter, with a lower alcohol content than Stout, and with an aroma between bitter chocolate and coffee. Its color is usually dark, but Stout is even darker, practically black, and is characterized by a bitter taste and its creaminess.
